May is here, and it brings with it a whole new selection of free PS Plus games for you to check out.

We've got an indie masterpiece, a survival icon and a '90s boomer shooter take on an iconic franchise.

Of course, a new set of games also means that some games will be leaving the service, and this month there are a lot of them.

Beyond the great value our PlayStation 5 Deals will get you, PS Plus gets you even more value since the games are usually worth more than you pay for the monthly subscription.

With that, let's take a look at all the PS Plus games coming to the service in May 2025!

PS Plus free games for May 2025 confirmed

All the games joining PS Plus in May 2025.
Here are all the games joining PS Plus in May 2025.

PS Plus Essential members will get the following free games from 6th May until 2nd June:

  • Balatro
  • Ark: Survival Ascended
  • Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun

If this is somehow your first time hearing about Balatro, we're very impressed. The poker roguelike from solo developer LocalThunk took the world by storm in 2024, racking up massive sales and plenty of awards in the process - it was even nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards! It's a must-play if you haven't had the chance to try it out yet.

Along with Balatro, we've got Ark: Survival Ascended. If you're a big fan of dinosaurs and/or survival games, then this hugely popular game is absolutely worth checking out. A remaster of 2015's Ark: Survival Evolved, it released into early access in late 2023, and developer Studio Wildcard is still hard at work polishing it up for a full release.

Last, but not least, we have Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. If you loved Space Marine 2, then Boltgun might be for you. An interesting twist on the series, it was released in 2023, but comes with the visual style of classic '90s shooters like Doom and Wolfenstein.

Basically, if you're a Warhammer 40k fan and love a bit of fast-paced FPS action, there probably isn't a better game out there for you than Boltgun.

Even more games are available with the higher tiers of PlayStation Plus (Extra and Premium). We're still unsure what else will be added to the other tiers, but we got plenty of new games recently.

Information on May's Extra and Premium selection of games for subscribers to claim hasn't appeared yet.

As soon as the list appears, we'll be sure to update the page with the latest information.

What to play on PS Plus – our recommendations

If you're looking for some other great games to play in the PS Plus Game Catalogue, we'd recommend these ones for sure:

  • Control: Ultimate Edition
  • Death Stranding Director's Cut (PS5)
  • Days Gone (PS4)
  • Demon's Souls (PS5)
  • DOOM Eternal (PS4, PS5)
  • Horizon Forbidden West (PS4, PS5)

As well as all the games included in the other tiers, PS Plus Premium lets you download and play older titles from PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP to harken back to a simpler time and relive your younger years.

PS3 games are only available via cloud streaming and this is region-dependent, but the UK is included in this list so we don't miss out.

See below for a selection of classics you can revisit:

  • Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (PS1)
  • Ridge Racer Type 4 (PS1)
  • Resident Evil Director's Cut (PS1)
  • The Jak and Dexter series (PS2)
  • Dark Cloud (PS2)
  • The God of War Collection and God of War Ascension (PS3)
  • inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2 (PS3)
  • Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice (PSP)
  • Killzone: Liberation (PSP)

As a PS Plus Premium subscriber, you also have access to time-limited trials, which lets you try before you buy and download a full game and play it for a set amount of time. The length of the trial varies depending on the game.

What’s also great here is that the progress you make on these trials will carry over if you end up buying the full game. We’ve got a selection of just a few below.

  • A Plague Tale: Requiem – Two hours
  • Baldur's Gate 3 – Two hours
  • Cyberpunk 2077 – Five hours
  • God of War Ragnarok – Three hours
  • The Last of Us: Part I – Two hours
  • Hogwarts Legacy – 45 minutes
  • Spider-Man 2 - Two hours

As you can see, longer RPGs and story titles get longer trials, so you can get a good sense of what you’re getting into before you fish out your wallet. Make sure to check out our more comprehensive list of all PS Plus games so you don't miss out on any games you've been meaning to play.

And that's your lot! We'll update this page as and when new PS Plus games are announced. For more info, check out our guide to the latest PS Plus offers to walk away with some cheap deals on the subscription.
